Auburn, California · Workers' Compensation
Auburn Workers' Comp Lawyer
An Auburn worker hurt on the job can seek California workers' compensation benefits whether the employer is a small shop, a hospital system, or Placer County government. California law requires almost every employer in the state, public or private, to secure coverage for its workers. The state's own ZIP code locator sends Auburn claims to the Division of Workers' Compensation's Sacramento district office, though that result does not decide venue for a specific case. Yazdchi Law is based in Palmdale, has no office in Auburn, and reviews each matter individually before deciding whether representation fits.

California's own labor market records list Placer County government offices, including its social services and sheriff's training operations, in Auburn. The same records list Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital in the city. A worker hurt at a county office, a hospital floor, or a small downtown shop can wonder whether the size or type of employer changes a workers' compensation claim. California law treats that coverage duty the same way for nearly every employer in the state. This guide covers that rule, the Sacramento district office that currently handles Auburn ZIP codes, and what to save before asking about representation.
Yazdchi Law is based in Palmdale and has no office in Auburn. Call (661) 273-1780 or use the contact form to ask whether the firm can review a California work injury matter. Each matter gets its own review. The firm never assumes representation before that review happens.

Does it matter whether my Auburn employer is Placer County, a hospital, or a small shop?
No. California law requires almost every employer in the state, public or private, to secure workers' compensation coverage for its workers.
California Labor Code section 3300 defines "employer" broadly. It names the state, every county, city, and district, and any person or business with a worker in its service. Placer County government, Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, and a small shop downtown all fit that definition, and each one owes the same basic duty under Labor Code section 3700. Employers generally meet that duty by buying an insurance policy or by qualifying with the state to self-insure. Here is the public agency option in the statute's own words.
(c) For any county, city, city and county, municipal corporation, public district, public agency, or any political subdivision of the state, including each member of a pooling arrangement under a joint exercise of powers agreement (but not the state itself), by securing from the Director of Industrial Relations a certificate of consent to self-insure against workers' compensation claims, which certificate may be given upon furnishing proof satisfactory to the director of ability to administer workers' compensation claims properly, and to pay workers' compensation claims that may become due to its employees.
Our Labor Code section 3700 guide covers the insurance side of that rule in more detail. If an employer skipped every option and carried no valid coverage at all, see our separate no-coverage penalty page.
What if my claim is handled by a self-insured county or hospital instead of an insurance company?
The claim still works the same way. A self-insured employer, or its claims administrator, simply takes the place of a commercial insurance company.
Placer County and some hospital systems qualify to self-insure rather than buy a policy from an insurance company. If your employer self-insures, a third-party claims administrator, not a household-name insurer, may send your letters and checks. The deadlines, the forms, and your right to medical care stay the same either way.
| If your Auburn employer... | How it secures coverage | What that means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Buys a policy from an insurance company | Insurance under Labor Code section 3700(a) | The insurance company's claims office handles your claim |
| Is Placer County, a city, or another public agency | A public agency self-insurance certificate under Labor Code section 3700(c) | A county or joint-powers claims office, or its administrator, handles your claim |
| Is a private company, such as a hospital system, that self-insures | An individual self-insurance certificate under Labor Code section 3700(b) | The employer's own claims department or administrator handles your claim |
Ask early who administers your claim and get that name in writing. It matters more for sending paperwork to the right place than for your underlying rights.
What should I do first after a job injury in Auburn?
Report the injury in writing and write down your employer's exact name and your claims administrator's name.
- Tell your supervisor the same day, in writing if you can, and keep a copy
- Ask for the DWC 1 claim form and note the date you turned it in
- Write down your employer's full legal name and your department or jobsite
- Ask who administers the claim: an insurance company, the county, or a self-insured employer's own office
- Save every letter, medical note, and work-status slip you receive
The California workers' compensation consultation checklist has a fuller document list. If a claim or a treatment request gets denied, see our claim-denial guide for the next step.

Which DWC office handles a workers' comp claim from Auburn?
The state's own ZIP code locator sends all three Auburn ZIP codes to the Sacramento district office. That result does not decide venue for your case.
We entered Auburn's three ZIP codes, 95602, 95603, and 95658, into the DWC ZIP code locator on October 14, 2026. All three returned the same office: Sacramento. The locator only identifies an office tied to a ZIP code. It does not rule on where a specific injury claim belongs, which can depend on where you were hurt, where you live, or where your attorney's office is. Our Sacramento Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) office guide covers hearing types, parking, and virtual-appearance options in more detail.

| DWC ZIP code locator | Finds the DWC office tied to a ZIP code | ZIP codes 95602, 95603, and 95658 all return the Sacramento district office |
| Sacramento district office | Court address and hours | 160 Promenade Circle, Suite 300, Sacramento, CA 95834-2962. Phone (916) 928-3101. Court sits 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. |

California's Employment Development Department major employer list for Placer County lists Placer County's own food-stamps and sheriff's training offices, and Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, with an Auburn location. That list runs alphabetically. It is not a ranking by size. Treat it as a sample of local employer types, not a top-employer list. Nearby Roseville shares the same Sacramento district office.
A practical next step for an Auburn worker
Write down your employer's exact name and who administers the claim. Then call about a review.
Save your employer's full name, your claims administrator's name, and the date and description of the injury. Check the California workers' compensation consultation checklist for the fuller document list. Then call Yazdchi Law at (661) 273-1780, or use the contact form, to ask whether the firm can review the matter. The firm's office is in Palmdale, not Auburn. Representation is considered case by case.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it matter if my Auburn employer is Placer County government rather than a private company?
Not for your basic right to benefits. California Labor Code section 3300 defines "employer" to include the state, counties, cities, and districts, alongside private businesses. Placer County still owes the same coverage duty as a private employer, usually through a self-insurance certificate instead of a commercial policy.
What if Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital or another large employer says its own claims team handles everything?
That is common for larger employers that qualify to self-insure under Labor Code section 3700. Ask for the name of the claims administrator in writing, since it may be an in-house office or a third-party administrator rather than an outside insurance company. Your deadlines and your right to medical care do not change either way.
Does the DWC ZIP code locator decide where my Auburn case is heard?
No. The locator only identifies the district office currently tied to a ZIP code. It does not rule on venue for a specific injury claim, which can depend on where you were hurt, where you live, or where your attorney's office is. Confirm current office details through DWC before relying on a phone number or address.
Does Yazdchi Law have an office in Auburn?
No. Yazdchi Law is based in Palmdale. Call (661) 273-1780 or use the contact form to ask whether the firm can assess a California workers' compensation matter. Representation is considered after an individual review.
What if my employer never secured workers' compensation coverage at all?
Ask about California's Uninsured Employers Benefits Trust Fund. Labor Code section 3716 creates that fund so a worker is not deprived of benefits because an employer was illegally uninsured. Our no-coverage penalty page covers the exposure an employer faces for skipping this duty. Save every document naming your employer, since the fund asks for the same kind of record.
Where can I get free job search or training help in Placer County while my claim is pending?
Golden Sierra Job Training Agency serves Placer, El Dorado, and Alpine counties from its Roseville office and offers free job search and training help. It does not handle workers' compensation claims. Use the DWC Information and Assistance Unit or a lawyer for claim and benefit questions instead.
