Livermore, California · Workers' Compensation
Livermore Workers' Comp Lawyer
A Livermore worker treated at an on-site health or safety office after a work injury should still ask for California's official claim form, since a quick first-aid visit is not the same as filing a workers' compensation claim. California law treats only very minor, one-time care as first aid; anything beyond that should trigger a written claim form from the employer. The official DWC ZIP code locator returns the Oakland district office for Livermore's two main ZIP codes, 94550 and 94551, checked on October 13, 2026, though that result does not decide venue for a specific case. Yazdchi Law is based in Palmdale, has no office in Livermore, and reviews each California workers' compensation matter individually.

Livermore has large research, laboratory, and hospital employers, not just small shops. California's Employment Development Department lists a Lawrence Livermore lab site under "Laboratories." It also lists Valley Care Health System under "Health Services," among the area's top local employers. Two federal research labs sit in Livermore: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and a Sandia National Laboratories site. A private contractor runs each lab day to day, under a federal energy contract. A large employer like this often keeps its own on-site health staff for small injuries. Getting checked there helps your health. It does not start a workers' compensation claim by itself. This guide covers that difference, what to write down on a big worksite, and where Livermore's claim paperwork goes.
Yazdchi Law is based in Palmdale. Call (661) 273-1780 or use the contact form to ask whether the firm can evaluate a California workers' compensation matter. The firm has no office in Livermore. Each matter is considered on its own facts before any decision about representation.

What counts as first aid at a Livermore job, and when does it become a claim?
California law treats only brief, one-time care for a minor scrape, cut, burn, or splinter as first aid. Anything beyond that should start the formal claim process, not just a visit to an on-site health office.
California Labor Code section 5401 defines first aid narrowly. It covers one visit, or one short followup visit, just to watch a minor scratch, cut, burn, or splinter. These are injuries that would not normally need medical care. Once an injury causes lost time beyond your shift, the case moves past first aid. The same is true if you need care beyond that narrow definition. At that point, your employer must hand or mail you the official claim form. This must happen within one working day of learning about the injury. Labor Code section 5400 also requires written notice to your employer. That notice is due within 30 days of an injury, though sections 5402 and 5403 cover some exceptions. Treat an on-site clinic visit as a medical record worth keeping. It is not a substitute for that written notice and claim form.
The table below separates what each kind of visit actually does.
| Step | On-site health or safety visit | Formal workers' comp claim (DWC-1) |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A short visit to an employer's own nurse, clinic, or safety office | A written state form reporting the injury to start your case |
| What it covers | Immediate first aid for a minor, one-time injury | Any injury causing lost time or treatment beyond first aid |
| Who keeps the record | Usually the employer's internal health or safety office | You, your employer, and the claims administrator each keep a copy |
| What it starts | Nothing on its own under the Labor Code | The one-year filing clock and the insurer's 90-day decision period |
What should I write down first on a large research or industrial site?
Note the exact building or area, your supervisor's name, and the specific task or equipment involved right away. A large site can make these details hard to reconstruct later.
A big campus can have several buildings, a shared entrance, or more than one company's badge system. Before the details blur, use the checklist below to capture what happened, and keep your own copy separate from any clinic paperwork.
- Building name or number, and floor or work area
- Supervisor or lead's name and department
- Exact task, tool, or equipment involved
- Date and approximate time
- Name of any coworker who saw it happen
- Who treated you on site, and what they told you to do next
What if I cannot go back to my regular lab or technical role?
If your employer has no modified job that fits your work restrictions, you may qualify for a state retraining voucher instead of just losing your paycheck.
A treating doctor writes a work-restrictions note. That note controls what tasks you can safely do. Your Livermore employer may not be able to offer modified or alternative work that fits those restrictions. If so, you may qualify for the supplemental job displacement voucher. This is a retraining benefit, separate from disability payments. The light-duty guide covers how that offer process works and what counts as a genuine offer. Ask for any modified-duty offer in writing. Keep your own copy of the restrictions note.
A short set of state deadlines applies once a claim is open.
| Step | Deadline | Law |
|---|---|---|
| Report injury to your employer | Within 30 days | Labor Code 5400 |
| File your workers' comp claim | Within 1 year | Labor Code 5405 |
| Insurer must accept or deny | Within 90 days | Labor Code 5402 |
| First disability check | Within 14 days | Labor Code 4650 |
| Appeal a denied treatment | Within 30 days | Labor Code 4610.5 |
The DWC-1 claim form guide explains what belongs in each section of that form, and the 90-day rule guide explains what happens if the claims administrator does not act in time. If a treatment request is denied instead of the whole claim, the treatment-denial guide covers that separate review process.

Which DWC office serves Livermore, and does the ZIP locator decide my case?
No. The locator only shows which office currently handles paperwork for a ZIP code; it does not rule on venue for your specific case.
On October 13, 2026, Livermore's two main ZIP codes, 94550 and 94551, both returned the same result from DWC's own locator: the Oakland district office. Under Labor Code section 5501.5, venue for an actual claim depends on where you live, where you were hurt, or where your attorney's office is. It does not depend only on a ZIP code. Use the locator to find current office contact information. Then confirm any case-specific question with the Information and Assistance Unit or a lawyer.

A practical next step for a Livermore worker
Get the official claim form moving, write down your worksite details while they are fresh, and check the resources above before you rely on an informal first-aid visit alone.
Start with three things. Ask your employer for the official claim form if an on-site visit was your only step so far, and return it with your own section completed. Write down the building, task, and witness details from the checklist above before memory fades. Check the office listings above, and call the Tri-Valley Career Center if returning to your old role is not realistic. Then call Yazdchi Law at (661) 273-1780 or use the contact form to ask whether the firm can review your matter. The firm's office is in Palmdale, not Livermore, and representation is considered case by case.
